'Jekyll & Hyde' outperforms its limitations at Stuart's Lyric Theatre
...the show is stolen by the completely captivating Sharon Owens as flame-haired Lucy. From her rousing music hall come-on, "Bring on the Men," through to her controlled rendering of Lucy's yearning to escape her lot, "A New Life," Owens makes the show's triangle uneven. A veteran of 23 Shiloh shows, she has also appeared at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and other professional shows.

Especially enthralling is Sharon Owens, who plays Babe Williams, a role immortalized in the 1957 film version of the play by Doris Day. Owens' rich, bluesy voice brings all the confidence and authority of Day, without the inevitable blonde ditziness. As if to drive that point home, Owens' Babe is a redhead.

There are women in the show, too, wives, girlfriends and stripper fans. They’re all terrific dancers and singers; it’s particularly nice to see Stuart theater mainstay Sharon Owens, in her first Equity production, as part of the ensemble.

Sharon Owens, a powerhouse singer who’s been with Shiloh on and off for years, at her very finest on “As If We Never Said Goodbye” (“Sunset Boulevard”) and the title song from “Cabaret.” As a soloist and in ensembles, Owens is onstage for much of the production — which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

An almost certain 11th-hour showstopper is the trio of second-rate strippers who introduce Gypsy to the finer points of the job (“You Gotta Get a Gimmick”). Sharon Owens, Trinna Mariano and Patty Carreau-Souza handle the comic bumps and grinds with aplomb.
